penguin sailboat parts The penguin is an 11-foot (3.4 m) cat-rigged sailing dinghy designed in 1938 by philip rhodes.the design experienced a surge in popularity after an article with construction plans was published in yachting magazine in 1940. the boat was originally designed to be easily built by an amateur at home out of plywood. Btw, my boat is a 1955 wright penguin so it was set up a little different than some -- for instance, i know that it did not use the lever arrangement to adjust the shrouds. it uses the track and sail slide arrangement. problem is that the wide rail the shroud track mounts to isn't wide enough for a harken 150 cam cleat - probably need to go to.
