After launching the new sou’wester 53 carbon fiber/epoxy sailing yacht on march 16, hinckley (southwest harbor, me, us) now unveils its new performance brand and two new high-performance models, the 40-ft sport boat and sport boat center cabin — both touted as offering speeds over 60 mph thanks to lightweight carbon fiber/epoxy construction.the first sport boat will launch july 2018. To properley build a carbon fiber hull it has to be built in an auto clave.we built one of our kurtis hydro's for john swanson that weighted 280 lbs and ran in tah .the boat stood the test of time with numerous passes over 200 mph.our first attempt with carbon fiber was a mistake .we tried to have it hand laminated and it proved to be a waste of time ,money and energy.with the advancements in. Since we custom build each boat sometimes our customers require a tender with a lighter weight or higher impact resistance; so kevlar or carbon fiber (or sometimes both) are weaved into the lamination for extra strength. the hull of an aquascan yacht tender is shaped to increase the performance of the boat in the water.
